Remote locking on '93 9000

Locking and locking my '93 9000 with the remote has become more and more difficult over the years, and now it almost never works. If I hold the button down on the remote for 20-30 seconds, it sometimes works.

It's an original Cobra alarm. Goldline? Is there anything I can check on this, or is it just a matter of giving up and using the key?

Cheers

I assume you've changed the battery?

Maybe the switch contacts are getting corroded, can you get in there to clean them?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've changed the battery a couple of times and tried cleaning the metal contacts.

I was wondering if there might be anything wrong with the alarm itself?

Hi Mark,

I have had good results with two car remotes, several TV remotes, and an overhead fan remote by cleaning the contacts under the rubber buttons. Carefully disassemble the remote. You may need a set of tiny screw drivers and if your near my age a jewler's loop. take out or pry out the circuit board (may be held in by screws or simply snaps in) and clean the contacts whose circuits are completed when the rubber buttons are pressed with a fresh pencil eraser. The back of the buttons have graphite bits glued to them so that when pressed they complete the circuit. Over time the graphite sloughes off and shorts out the contacts.

Good luck,
