saab 9000 Cooling Fan only runs Hi Speed (more info)

Any one know where I can a schematic to help me suss out a problem with a Saab

9000.

I have replaced the 3-wire radiator fan switch but still no Low Speed operation.

If I short the blue wire on the Fan Switch to ground, the fan runs low speed as expected.

Could this be a dodgy new fan switch?

*** Problem *** Engine getting hot - fan kicks in @ high speed (temp gauge on 3/4) - no low speed operation at all, straight to high speed. This is blowing the 30 amp fuses every couple of days!

*** What I Know *** Relays work (both high speed and low speed) Fuses OK Battery OK

3-wire radiator fan switch brand new

Help please.

speed as expected.

Sounds like it. Try this: Bring the engine up to temp where the high speed fan starts to run and shut it down. Then pull the connector and measure the continuity of the two temperature switches (need an ohm meter or at least a test light). If the high speed (high temp) switch is closed the low speed should be too.

If you decide to replace the switch again, look for one that has lower temperature settings. The SAAB design has the radiator running too hot so that when the thermostat opens it pulls in coolant that is almost the same temperature the engine is. Not very efficient...
