Seat belt too short for child seat

I wonder whether somebody could help me with the following problem.

In my Saab 9-3 (2002) the seat belt in the back seat is too short to fit in a childseat (Maxi Cosi) easily. Does anybody know a safe and not too expensive way to resolve this problem?

The Saab dealer says it can make the seat belt longer, but that would cost me about ? 160. I hope that there is a cheaper sollution.

Kind regards,

Mark

See the posting about the infant car seat by Richard Kirby. He has an NG900. Try pulling gently on the seatbelt to get it to extend the full length. If you pull too quickly it will lock. I could get the buckle of the middle seatbelt outside of the car by pulling gently. That ought to be long enough to fit around any car seat.

Are you sure you're fitting the seat correctly? It's been a couple of years since we needed one, but the way it hooked up (through the back of the child seat) actually needed less belt length than strapping in a person...

Yes, it does fit, but easily. If I put in the child seat I buckle it first. Then I move the child seat towards the back benck (so the baby almost falls out!) and then I can hook it up through the back of the seat.

We have done this with our first two kids. But now, with number three, it is a bit crowded at in the back and a longer seat belt would make things a lot easier.

So any suggestions are more than welcome!

This doesn't sound right. I've used both baby seats and second-stage child seats by Maxi-Cosi in the back of my 2000 9-3, and had the baby seat at least both in the centre and the outside. It's possible that Maxi-Cosi products vary in the amount of belt they need, and just possible that a 2002 Dutch model has shorter belts than a 2000 British model, but unlikely enough on both counts to be worth checking out.

Have you checked with Maxi-Cosi and also with Saab centrally whether the belt is supposed to fit?
