Strange front tyre wear pattern

Hi evr'yone Any advice/suggestions welcome on this new to us L reg 9000CSE lpt auto

During mechanical inspection on the ramps by a non franchise Saab only specialist who we know & trust we noticed/were advised both front tyres were very worn on the inner shoulders. Ie the edge of the tread had been worn off completely. Top engine mount is showing wear but is nowhere near needing to be done. No concerns about suspension components

So off we go to have the tracking checked - that¹s fine. Its suggested that the camber angle is wrong (apparently its adjustable on some cars ie VW) Now the scary bit is that one tyre was showing casing over 35% of its circumference. So we've got two new front tyres

We know the car has had new tyres at about 17k mile intervals, they are

195/65VR15 Cooper VHP's, fitted on Saab Aero rims - the handed ones. The handed front wheels were on the wrong side when bought It had a near side front pattern wheel bearing fitted a month before the last set of front tyres (17k ago) & the last MOT 6k miles ago in June 03 has no advice on tyres at all. It had pattern front discs & calipers fitted in Dec 02 Front suspension wishbone (Saab) bushes fitted Sept 01 Near side inner driveshaft bearing (Saab) fitted Mar 00

Neither of us regular 9000 drivers noticed any unusual driving characteristics on test or routine 75 mile journeys

Just pleased we got to those tyre before they got us in blowout trouble

I'm very surprised that this has got to this stage in 6k miles & would appreciate any advice/suggestions from the group

TIA & regards: Frank

Poor alignment will tear up a tire fast -- and not just on Saabs. I had a Mazda hatchback that ate rear tires until I finally got it aligned correctly. If you're running a softer performance tire, it will go particularly fast, especially if not kept properly inflated. How often did you have an alignment done? Was one done after each procedure you list? Should have been. I just replaced the front tires on my 9000CS for the same reason you did -- the cords were showing. The tires were on the car when I bought it used last May. It was badly out of alignment. I had new tires put on and the car aligned. Really improved the handling. The tire store where I had this done offered unlimited alignments for a year at the cost of two alignments which I went for. I figured if it's free, I'll use it. There are plenty of pot holes around here to knock it out of alignment.
