they don't make them like that any more...

I'm referring to the rear bumpers on my 93' 9000 CSE. The bumpers are incredibly strong with the shock absorbing concertina sections. Went off the motorway junction as usual. There is a roundabout above the motorway with several traffic lights. The last traffic lights weren't working and there were no warnings. As a car shot in front of me from the left, I naturally put my foot on the brakes. An eager white van driver went into my rear with an almighty bang. No noticeable damage to the Saab, only a slight 'polish' on the rubber strip. His car however, got a wrecked front bumper.

About a year ago, I'm backing out of a parking spot (mind you I'm only doing 2 or 3 MPH)in my '94 9000 CSE, and I hit the front bumper of a big GM pickup truck. I figure that there would be no damage, other than a slight spot of green paint on his bumper and chrome on mine.
