What is Plastic Tank Above Rear Inner Wheel Well?

What's that plastic tank above the driver side inner wheel well, in the trunk of my 1992 Saab 900 trubo? It has a hose that seems to be disconnected to it. What is it? And what does it do? Helpo, and thanks.

What side is your driver side?

I do not know about the trunk, but my '87 900T has a white plastic tank in the right front inner wheel well, it is a vacuum buffer tank, right next to the power steering oil reservoir. It has one rubber hose running to the intake manifold and one disapearing behind the dashboard to the ventilation control valve.

The vacuum canister is in the trunk/boot on a cabrio. It's purpose it to supply "power" to the cabin air vent controller.

It's actually over the wheel well in the back left, behind the driver's, and can be reached from inside the trunk. I have a gas smell in the car? Wondering if it might have something to do with that. Maybe vapor recovery??

It depends on what side of the car your steering wheel is on? What country are you in please?

Could this be a fuel evaporative canister or something of that nature? What color & shape is it?

That's what I was thinking. Is it black?

It's actually white. Has a clear plastic hose going from the back into under the car. Has another black hose about it going into the canister.??

That is the vacuum canister for the heater controls. It stores a vacuum with a one way valve to operate the switch for the heater vents, when the engines vacuum reserves are low or depleted for very short periods.
