What's the deal w/Saab brakes?

After finally getting my 9-3 wheels in tip top shape a couple of weeks ago, I had to sit back and ponder, What IS the deal with Saab brakes? Why all the dust? and why is it so sticky? Do owners find different replacement pads that don't have the same characteristics as the OEM pads? Forgive me if this topic has been covered before, but I'm fairly new around here. I would appreciate your input.

It's not a Saab thing, it's the pads. Always a tradeoff between noise, dust, braking ability and wear on the rotors.

If you want to see bad, look at Audi A4's wheels for the last generation.

After 3 sets of saab brake pads within 40k I finally woke up and said I just cant stand clening the brake dust any more and cant afford to keep going like this. Off to midas I went and I must say that was 35k ago and the brakes are still good. also they use a pad with very little dust so that ended my problem. good luck papa

May I ask how much did they charge you? I pait $35 for front AND rear pads and took me about 2 hours to complete the job on all 4 wheels. The rear calipers on a 900S had to be split in order to remove so that is why it took me so long

How sure are you that they had to be split? On the 9-3 and 9-5, they can be split, but doing pads on those is just driving two pins out, lifting out the pads, pushing back the piston, and in with the pads and pins. Does the ng900 have the same caliper?
