98 Sc2 1.9L starter

Any advice on changing the starter in a 98 SC2 1.9L? Special tools needed? I saw the thread above about it being a 6 hour job, hopefully this one is different!

That was me with the 6 hour job on a LW300 :-((

Hopefully for you there is more room and better access for you. My major hang-up was that the nut holding the battery cable to the starter solenoid was stripped at the threads (from loosening and then arcing - burned off all the threads). Couldn't even loosen the battery cable since everything is bundled and even harder to get at. Having a 3" diameter mirror saved the day since I couldn't see directly. The L series also uses inverse (male) Torx bolts in a lot of places, the starter included. Don't know if they are used on any other models (L-Series was designed by Opel in Germany). If you need a set, Lisle has them - available at most auto parts. Oppie
