Removing radio from 99 SL2?

The volume adjust knob is loose. Need to take out the radio to fix it, don't have the shop manuals, and wonder if anyone can outline how to get it out...

thanks mh

Here is the procedure in text form from my eSI disk. Not sure if this is=20 very helpful...

  1. Depress the center pins inward to release the radio/HVAC controller=20 cover push pin fasteners.

Important Do not push the center pins through the fasteners.

  1. Remove the fasteners and pull the radio/HVAC controller cover=20 rearward.
  2. Disconnect the traction control/fog lamp/rear defog electrical=20 connector, if equipped.
  3. Remove the radio screws.
  4. Push the spring clips in through D holes on both sides of the radio=20 brace.
  5. Pull the radio out slightly to access the rear of the radio.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector and antenna.
  7. Remove the radio.

Installation Procedure

  1. Connect the electrical connector and antenna to the back side of the=20 radio.
  2. Install the radio.

Important Make sure the spring clips are seated in D holes on both sides.

  1. Install and tighten the screws. Tighten the screws to 2.5 N=B7m (22 lb= =20 in) .
  2. Connect the traction control/fog lamp/rear defog electrical=20 connector, if equipped.
  3. Install the radio/HVAC control cover. Push in at clip locations.
  4. Install the push pins and lock.

If you have the Saturn stereo, you need to remove the shroud that goes around the center pod. Look on the sides and you will see some round disks with smaller circles in the middle. Push in the center circle with a pen or something and pull on the larger disk and the fastener will come out. Once you have removed them all (4 maybe?) the shroud will slide right off and from there you can easily remove the stereo.
