1947 Power Brakes

Here is the Service Bulletin on the 1947 Power Brakes......... looking at the diagram there seems to be something added to the vacuum system.

Like the Service letter says, it was for disabled Vets and operated the clutch, brake and gas with one hand control. What question did you have ?

What question did you have ?

Since they had this "power assisted" device, why did they not modify it and apply it to normal production cars? When did power brakes become an option?

That was my question.

All I get is a page not found.

Course the phone company hasnt fixxed the line perfectly yet so all I can get is 26.4kbps at best. That might be part of it.

I think Big M series trucks in the late 40's, early 50's for power brakes. I'm sure Studebaker had it by 1953, but vacuum assisted power brakes date from the late 20's.

John, that was in interesting setup that was available in the 1920's. It was only available with the 4-wheel brake option, and one could say it was the first ABS system around. It had a hydraulic monitoring system to keep the brake system 'non-skid' complete with a performance guage on the dashboard. I remember there was someone on your Wednesday night chat about

7 or 8 years ago that was restoring a 1925, I think it was, that had it. I scanned and e-mailed the page in the Cannon-Fox book on the subject after we got talking about it. But as far as a modern type vaccuum brake booster, I think it was found on the 1933 Presidents, and maybe the other models.

Craig.
