Anybody have a VISA through Bank of America?

The SDC has Visa cards through Bank of America. Due to their new "no ss number needed" policy I called and cancelled my card. They didn't even try to get me to keep it. I guess they have gotten a lot of complaints and won't bother to try to keep you as a customer! I am going to email SDC and tell them about it. Maybe they will withdraw their association with Bank of America.

When that card was first introduced it was through MBNA. As you've probably noticed with other cards, the issuing bank changed hands and that's why it is now a B of A card. If I go to Wells Fargo (acct since 1972) for a money order to pay that ebay seller who will only accept M/O, they want $4. If I go to Bank of America (acct since about 1990) it's free!

You'll be hard pressed to find a bank that does not offer some type of secured credit card with a checking account. :

"The Bank of America isn't the first to offer such a card: Citigroup Inc. said it has done so for years, and Wells Fargo & Co. says it's thinking about it. "

You can buy "prepaid cards" now without any credit check, put 10K in, and you can charge 10K. The banks love it, no risk, they have your money and they charge the merchants 2-4 %. I never checked for a social security number when I sold stereo's in my store, nor when I sell a Studebaker and I don't expect that banks will turn away customers either.

Some retired CPOs qualify for USAA - fantastic service and flexibility. However, Calvin, I just sent them a message warning them about you, so don't bother.
