dyeing interior fabric

Does anyone have any experience dyeing interior. I'm helping out with a 49 champion, door panels and side panels in back look to be a velour material. It has severe fade and water stains, we wanted to see if we could save it by dyeing. The color in question is brown. What dye did you use?? How did you apply it??

Thanks Russ (rather be packing wheel bearings)

I had used a product called: fabspray - fabric color spray, on a few occasions. I was happy with the results. They also had a vinyl spray, which was really good too. While I have not seen either product around for a while, it might still be available. I still have a can of the fabspray, here is what it said: Manufactured by: Zynolyte Products Company, Carson, California 90749-6244

Sims makes a good product, available at any good auto paint store. You can get rattle cans, or have it mixed to use with a paint gun.

I used the rattle can product to change some cloth seats from tan to black, and it worked fine. If you are "freshening up" a color, it should be even easier.

Clean the surface, spray on the dye. Since I was changing colors, I brushed the knap between coats to allow for better penetration, but not sure that is needed. All in all, not a major project.

Good luck!
