help I.D. this car please

found a hulk in a local u-pull it junk yard and it had been sitting for a long time. the only Ident. I have found so far is that it is a 4 door stude, with "passmaster" on the valve covers. the intake is gone as is most of the trim and all badges. this is a salt belt poster child. I was looking for mopar wheels and stumbled across this in the weeds. what year? i.s.t.r. that passmaster was only one year. is that right?what year(s)? I have also been looking for a dana 44. is it possable that it may have one? I would have to have them lift up the car with the yard fork lift to see. I hope to go back soon to see if I can find some I.d. plates. on the car.

The car is surrounded by six foot high thissle.quite nasty stuff that I don't want to tangle with again if it is not worth it,Rich

"passmaster" was 1955 I believe so it should have a Dana 44 but it won't be limited slip. It should however have the desirable rear sway bar.

ok, I checked my books and the rear tread is 55.7 on this rear. my 64 is 56.6. I also checked the space on the spring purchase on my car. this rear would fit and give me about half an inch more space for more tire per side. will it rub the wheel wells if I get the right combination of wheel offset and tire size? I know that I am not the first to contemplate this swap. has this been done by anybody. I can get the dana pretty cheep and there is a local 4x4 shop that will do a rebuild for me, is it worth it? at the least I am going back for the sway bar.Rich

I think the difference in tread width is due to the different wheels used in 55 as opposed to 64. The rear end should be the same size drum face to drum face.

Just to add to my previous post, which was a little short...

1) I've been told, but have never verified, that pre-'58 rear ends and '58-up rear ends have the spring perches welded on at a slightly different angle.

2) If your '64 is a Hawk, a MoPar M-body police car wheel or a 15x7" wheel with equivalent offset will fit under the rear and allow clearance for at least 245s, maybe slightly larger. If you want wider tires yet you will need more backspace. but then you will probably need a sway bar to keep from rubbing the inner fenders in hard corners.

good luck,

nate

I went back and the bar is gone. the mounts and the rear are there.

Nate, I saw a Daytona at southbend this spring,62 or 3 red with a white top 4 speed. it looked like police wheels and 245-60 15's. it looked mean. I would like to do the same with my 64 Daytona. the plan was to go with drag lites (Weld wheels) or magnum 500's. but these looked better. did you see the car? I wanted to ask what mods he did to make it all fit. any Idea's? I want to put the disc brakes on this winter. do you think the police rims accomidate them? just wondering. thanks, Rich
