HOT ROD Power Tour

Anybody going on this? It's going through the heart of SE Studebaker country. I'd be going on most of it if I wasn't going to be in ND during the time it comes through Columbia.

Definitely a fun show, even if you aren't driving in it... I have been to several of their 'stops' and had a good time looking at the shows... The tour can be a drag... The first few days and the first few miles everybody is charging hard.. No leisurely stroll from event stage to event stage....you have to lay down hard and fast miles to keep up and get checked in for the 'Long Haul Gang' deal. And if you stay in the tour motels/hotels, be prepared to shell out some pretty big bucks. After 2/3 of the tour it gets real hard to keep motivated. I spoke with a dozen plus participants at three of the tours on the last few days, and they were all pooped out and looking forward to getting it over with and getting the sicker for their window, an 8&1/2x11 award sheet, a 1 font mention in the magazine, and to be part of a 300 person group picture. Yawn.... I ran one leg with the crowd once a couple years ago and that was sort of fun.... Did the car show in one town and got up at dawn, sucked down a cup of coffee, filled up with gas, and took off.... Passed half the early starters and got passed by half the later starters, and we all ended up at the traffic jam at the next stop. Getting stuck in a stopped single file line of hot rods a quarter mile before the exit on a 70mph interstate is not my cup of tea.. In retrospect... I'd just drive over to a close by stop and pay to enter in the car show for the day and have fun... but that's just me... Mike Gaither from the San Antonio area has done this the past couple of years...and I think he's planning on doing it again this year. I REALLY need to call him and see what he's up to...I haven't made many chapter meetings lately and apparently, neither has he!

Mike...are you still visiting here and checking in once in a while? Call me...I have some good news!

He's SUPPOSED to be spending all his spare time working on his extended-cab Coupe Express!!
