Less cheap Avanti

OK, I'm on a roll now. After trying to rebuild the front disks, I found the front caliper bores were too pitted to clean up, so I call SASCO for a price quote. $130 each and I need four, so it's time to call Jim Turner for the extra few bucks. Of course once the "cheap" Avanti has Turner brakes, it should get a new exhaust system and new carpets might be nice... ( I'm so screwed )

I'm not sure but IIRC, I got four cylinders from Chuck Collins for substantially less than that. Of course, that was a couple of years ago...

Sir I was again looking at the pics of this Avanti. Pardon my ignorance with this question. It appears the hood to roof supports are rusty. Are they actually metal supports or are they just discolored? Thanks HarryB - a lurker

They are surface rusted, and can actually rust although they are not that bad on this car. It's certainly something to check on an Avanti, especially one with signs of having been in a rust-conducive environment.

(I can tell you this because my '55 is parked right next to it in JP's driveway, as I am working on my steering today)

IIRC Dave Thiebault sold me rebuilt disc cylinders that were sleeved with stainless, new seals and plated pistons for $70 ea.? That was a couple three years ago and they have performed great for about 15000 miles now. Tim K.
