Major bone head

OK, time to embarrass myself with the bone headed move of the year. I got the interior in my R2 Hawk and decided it was time for a test drive to the gas station to check out the new engine. I got half way up the hill and thought I started to run out of gas and limped home. I added a few gallons and saw no improvement. I thought maybe the carb was crapped up with some rust from the tank and pulled the carb only to find it cleans as a whistle. I rigged up a fuel pressure gage and only had 2 PSI now and then, sometime nothing.

Has to be the fuel pump, right ? Take the pump off, it looks great too, but I'd better swap it. While swapping the fittings, I found the problem. I'd grabbed a PCV out of my brass drawer by mistake.

I made a mistake once, but I just blamed it on Pat Drnec (inside joke outside)

At least you figured it out quickly. That in itself is self satisfying or should I say self forgiving...

Back in 1973 I put a brand new radiator into my car. Then I casually drove a screwdriver throught it when tightening the upper hose clamp. Did I feel like a real JERK! FlatheadGeo.

Pat, You don't know me from Adam, but can I make a friendly suggestion? I know this is my first (and probably only) post to this newsgroup, but your sigline has made the NG impossible to search. I'm looking for information about a 1956 President, but can't do so because every single post you've made pops up. Now, this probably won't be recv'd well, but I thought maybe you'd like to know. TIA, Kevin

I changed it last week, don't think I can do so retroactively. If you're searching on Google groups, use this search string: 1956 president -drnec That will filter all of my posts.

Nahhhhhh,,, I have u all beat. This one goes beyond bone head, but it did end up creating a good memory. I was driving my '64 cruiser to work one day and decided to take a short cut thru the parking lot over one of those precast cement parking thingies. U know, the ones about 4ft wide or so, and 5 or 6 inches high. Well I got away with it that time. Next time i did it, I had a passenger. Just those few extra 200 lbs or so made a big difference. Yep, u guessed it. The very noticable "clunk" put a lump in my throat. By the time I reached the parking space I had left a trail of oil. I was able to get home by temporairly plugging the hole that was made where the drain plug dips down a little below the oil pan. Later I had a good buddy weld it for me. A couple of weeks later he died suddenly. That weld job would always remind me of him. Yeah, it was a bone headed thing to do, but i gained a precious memory out of it.
