Pretty cool. I know you are a proud Daddy. Matt has been working on his BMW quite a bit lately and will be into the the land speed racing thing with it a lot more this season. Set a class record with it a couple of years ago at Maxton, hopes to reclaim it in June.

By-the-way, a fellow from Tennessee runs a 1500cc Karman Ghia at Maxton. Last weekend he did 132.598 mph in it. Normally aspirated, no blower on gas. A beautiful machine. I think you kids would find it interesting.

Yaers ago when I had my 69 Grand Prix at the track, I was in the staging lanes whem a guy with a 454 Chevelle asked me if I would allow him to stage before me. He explained he had a friend that would be doing a video of his next pass and hw didn't want to stage next to the

11.5 second Bug that was to be in the other lane. So I let him go ahead. It was a test/tune and my 14.2 second GP was dusted by a 12 second Eagle Talon on the previous run so why not get creamed by a VW on this pass. (G)

I was once told by a very old mechanic, that the VW Bug was the world's fastest car in the first 6 inches of acceleration. As my flight instructor would say, you would go that fast if you had fire comin out of your ass!

B.T. acts as a consultant for team Hyper Bug. When folks ask about the blow thru turbo setup,I hold a straight face and tell them it is copied from a Studebaker Paxton setup from '57.It really is. Todays "experts" say draw thru turbo is the way to go, and scoff at blow thru. You would be amazed at how many people look at that setup, without ever seeing or hearing it run and say "that will not work!" It reminds me of the "Ford made the 289's in the Studebaker" comments. After a mid 6 second run or two, they come back and look much closer. The boys enjoy going to tracks that have never seen that Bug run. They lined up against a 502 Chevelle a month ago and almost put that crew into cardiac arrest.

Really fast! If he wrapped the exahust pipe he could get even more boost, but maybe he has all he needs now.
