OT San Francisco 1906 & 2006 & 1989

It was 100 years ago that "The Big One" hit SF and some of the folks that lived through it were on TV talking about it today.

Last night I watched a few hours that I taped during "my" SF Quake in

1989. I was quite close to the epicenter.

What impressed me most from my tape was the professionalism of the local broadcasters. both San Fran and San Jose. Calm and informative when they didn't really know that much about what was happening.

I'm not looking for another, that's for sure! (But I'll take a few 4.5s instead of cold and snow.)

My last day in the city as a resident was Oct. 1st 1989.

I was still working in the city part time, while I figured out what I was doing, and blew the day off so I could watch a shuttle launch (that ended up delayed for the 2nd time

I was sitting in my buddy's APT in Stockton watching baseball when it happened, they all freaked out, and I was happy.

See I wasn't in S.F, and I knew it was worse there.

Got home to find my roommate with his foot trapped between his car and the curb, used a jack to free him.

Spent the next two days relaying calls from friends in S.F. to the rest of the country.

I Left CA and moved back home shortly after that.

My wife reminded me of the 100th anniversary yesterday. She is from CA, & her birthday is on April 18th.
