Pat Skelly '60 Hawk

Stopped at Pat Skelly's place for a little bit this afternoon. He was just getting done putting new points and condensor in his '60 Hawk. Had it on the charger, just to make sure the new battery wouldn't get run down. Squirted a little gas in the carb and hit the remote starter switch. Started right up like it had been started lest week. Except it has been two years since last fired up, and the gas stank like it. But, the engine settled in and ran real, real smooth. Smoked just a teeny bit, but an oil change and fresh gas will most likely clear that up. Pat said he was going to spend the weekend cleaning it up, and prepping it for sale on Ebay, or something like that.....Unless someone talks nice to him. He's set on selling it to allow him to get started on hos '37 coupe project. Sure was good to hear that Stude Hawk purr...

Gas sure ain't what it used to be... I let it go for so long in the Power Hawk, (which was laid up for a few years), that it bent all of the intake push rods. Had to remove the heads etc.

All of the intake valves were sticking badly so I just rebuilt the heads and now that engine is just plain sweet.

Now, I always use preservative just in case of extended driving intervals.

I had hoped to go to Springfield by the high gas prices will put a crimp on that.

Now that I have retired, prioritizing spending, (unlike the guv'ment), is a major consideration every day.

Have you noticed as you grow older that obstacles appear to increase? Seems that every time that I turn around, I have to jump through another hoop...

Most of the increase is due to the declining dollar and some speculation with regard to unrest in the Middle East.

Greetings not dead yet Jeffster. How you be? Hi Pat although I don't recall seeing you post here. I once had a 60 Lark 259 that sat dormant inside from 1990 till 2006. Hibernating so to speak. Turned it over without the coil wire for a few revs, plug back on coil wire and then added just about a half shot glass full of gas. Of course it fired right up. Not remarkable but Studependous. This car went to bed with ARCO graphite oil in it. Do you remember that stuff? Goin' to South Bend Jeff or any body NDY for the matter? I would actually chitt the bed if any body commented. von jimmijim

Pat has the Hawk running nice now. He changed the pinion seal that was leaking, and is checking the brakes (one wheel was dragging a bit). He's putting it up on Ebay soon, unless someone contacts him directly. This Hawk has the real nice fiberglass front fenders 9w/ vents). You can't tell they are 'glass unless you feel the fenderwell lip.
