Reclining Seats

My Daytona has reclining bucket seats. They work OK, but tend to fall back on their own at times. I'd like to do away with them if I could, so how do I change them from reclining to non-reclining? The seats themselves are in pretty good shape, just need recovering. Now I understand why Pat Skelly had them bolted so they wouldn't move!

Not guilty partner, they were bolted when I got them. But thats not to say, I wouldn't have done it.

I've thought about bolting them back, but then nobody could get to the back seat.

There's some reclining seat repair parts on eBay right now, Matthew.

Thanks Gord. Someone sent me an email with some ideas to try. I'd like to do away with the reclining stuff altogether. Is there someway to modify the reclining mechanism so that it won't recline? I still want it to flip forward though.

Matthew, The seat back frames probably can be modified by welding stop on the base and the seat back frame. However, I think it would be easier to repair the recliners. The seat back frames are different from reclining to non-reclining types. The parts are available (I think) from SI and Jon Myer, maybe others. I fixed the recliners on my '65 Cruiser several years ago- not hard at all. Besides, there will be a time when the recliners will be handy . Paul Johnson

OK, just wanted to let you guys know that I fixed the recliner mechanism in the seat today. The little thing with the 'teeth' was worn out. I replaced it with parts from a '60 Hawk. (yep, car has a reclining split-bench seat too! ) Greased it all up and it works like new! Thanks guys.

Hey, good for you. It wasn't too hard was it? Paul Johnson

No it wasn't. It went apart and back together TOO easy. I just wasn't sure as to what the assembly was composed of. After taking apart the one in the Hawk parts car, and knowing I could put it back together, I decided it would be a LOT easier just to fix what I had. ;)

Let me know if that Hawk has another donor 'thing with teeth' - the driver's seat of the Daytona needs one.
