Studebaker Investment buyers.

You may recall that I have a client looking for a "Supercharged Golden Hawk" I mentioned that I'd look for one, but had a 63 R2 for sale shortly. He explained that the client was not familiar with that model, so I sent him some pix of Goldie, the car I sold on ebay last year. I then get a e-mail that the client wants to fly in and buy the car ! Of course I no longer own that car, nor have I quoted a price. I think that price is not a issue, which of course is pleasant to hear, so I tell him about the white R2 I'm prepping and I get this back.

"I'll take a look John, we only buy high end though ... usually cars that have undergone complete and correct ground up restorations...we are also buyers of celebrity owned and factory concept cars or prototypes.

You will probably be getting a call from my associate Neil xxxx."

This is a new type of Studebaker buyer that is starting to show up, they appear to be investors, buying all the cream of the crop cars, like the 50K 4 wheel drive. I need to find this fellow a mint supercharged Hawk, so leads on exceptional cars would be great. Finders fee if we complete a deal.

I'm not surprised, John. Magazines such as AutoWeek, Old Cars & Parts, and Sports Car Market have been saying for quite some time that the next good marque to invest in would be Studebaker. The reasons usually quoted would be the low price as compared to popular makers, and also as a way to stand out in a crowd with "something different". The SDC is sometime mentioned as providing an "instant" support group for parts and tribal knowledge. Once again, the world is coming around to a Studebaker way of thinking.

I have been saying this for two years.......... But nobody listens.

My problem has always been that I never had enough money to follow my hunches.

Let me guess, the "Cheque" will be made out for more than the stated value for the "article" with the remainder being the commission due to the broker. I have gotten a few of those solicitations. I wonder how many Studebakers there are in Nigeria, or by Nigerians residing in Britain? LOL!

John: If Mark is the name of the fellow who contacted you,and he lives in Fl. don't get to excited. Mark and Neil contact everyone down here with old cars for European buyers, They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk.

All JP ever sees is $$$$$$$ signs he never cares whether he drives up Studebaker prices or takes a car off the Stude show circuit, Just another Golden Hawk sent to the storage barn never to be seen again till the next big Kruse Auction,

I guess I should qualify all potential new Studebaker owners looking for car. Anything else you object too other than collectors ? i.e. I'm not over the moon about Goldies new owner adding 64 wood grain to the door panels either, but once I've sold a car, it's up to the new owner to decide how he'll use it. BTW, I don't drive up the prices, the market does that. Most of my sales are on ebay, and I have no clue as to how to keep the bidders from driving up prices on cars and parts. The simple fact is our Studebakers are still underpriced compared to the brand X's. Your "high priced" Studebaker, is a bargain compared to the rest. Why should a Golden Hawk be worth less than a bread and butter 57 Chevy ??
