Yes! XM radio in a Studebaker

Last week I bought a Delphi Roadie portable XM radio kit. We travel a lot on the road and it is a PITA to keep scanning for radio stations as you go. Invariably scan locks on to a station you just passed and it only lasts a few miles (especially in the hills back this way). With the XM you can listen to the same channel coast to coast. First tried it in the Bravada when I took the R-3 to Jon Myer. No matter what we did it would only give us channel 1, the preview channel. The wife was about to throw it out the window. When we got home I went to the XM website and in the FAQ was my exact problem. Solution- call or use the web to request a "refresh". Did that and it worked like a charm. In the Bravada I used the preferred hookup, a cassette adapter. In my truck the cassette doesn't work so I had to use the "match FM frequency" setup. Again, absolutely no problem. In the 450-mile round trip to pick up my Wagonaire I never had to change frequencies. Anyhow, back to Studebaker content. My '64 Wagonaire has the Studebaker AM-FM so I decided to try it using the "match frequency" setup. Bingo! I have XM in the Wagonaire- not exactly Bose stereo quality like my Bravada or Infinity quality like my Ram truck, but good and strong and listenable. Now, I can keep the wife entertained cross country next year when we make our Potomac Chapter Lincoln Highway trip>BG>. BTW- if you don't know XM, it's amazing. CD quality radio with 160 channels to choose from- music from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, all kind of country and bluegrass, talk shows, comedy, sports, emergency broadcasts and on and on- $9.99 activation fee and $12.95 a month (discount for longer term payment) plus the cost of your radio kit- I paid a net of $40 for it, but I'm sure there are better deals out there.
