2010 Impreza diesel UK

I've never been a diesel fan for a variety of reasons. Today my WRX was in the shop for a service and the dealer loaned me a brand new Impreza turbo diesel for the day. Despite myself I was highly impressed! I like the car in all respects...more bells and whistles than my WRX....and the 2 litre lump gave really good performance at low MPG. I'd say a winner but I'm sticking with the WRX.

Subaru won an engine-of-the-year award or similar when they introduced the boxer diesel.

I wonder if it is holding up well?

I hope it doesn't fall in to the 'overdeveloped under engineered' category that many modern diesels seem to be in with less than impressive reliability being the main problem with many makes. In Europe diesel car sales are very high so the percentage of problems is considerable compared to petrol cars. It certainly drove well and I hope it sells loads for them.

the reason being?

How much does the diesel impresa bob, weave, squat and dive compared to the wrx? (assuming your springs/shocks are stock)

What part of 'in all respects' isn't clear? Why would a diesel version handle badly? The handling is excellent...and I did sling it around a tad to check, ditto the brakes. I've never driven a Subaru that bobs, weaves and dives let alone squats. Is there one?

Sure, Outback Sport does: the springs are very soft. The rear sway bar is outright pathetic even compared to the soft 17mm bar on WRX sedan (wrx wagon has a sucker sway bar i think). I suspect other stilted versions or what used to be Legacy before a recent fork do bob weave squat under accel and dive under braking also. That's why there are GT and STI strains in the US market, kapisch? Frankly this all becomes moot point as yen gets stronger and stronger

therefore the jap offerings look more and more like a bag ofsticks. for the US marketanyway. The LSD removal on WRX was the first sign of the times to comewith the very diluted crap coming from japan (of course that does notapply to JDM versions, but who cares?) All of a sudden german cars look more and more attractive, esp where i'm now. (Not to mention that with a beemer I either get a full RWD or an awd with a heavy 911like rear axle bias)

At some point it was ridiculous enough around here where newmazda 3 price tag exceeded that of the new barebones bmw 318 (yes, that is still sold outside the US of A)

Did I mention that bmw 118i (2 liter 4 banger) starts under 20k USD around here?
