'99 Forester: Clicking sound when turning. Not CV joints

I have a a '99 Forester that makes a clicking/clunking sound when accelerat= ing and turning. It seems worse when going uphill or when the car is cold. = Sounds like CV joints right? But I have had the axels replaced twice now. B= oth times, the noise goes away for a while, and then within a week or so, i= t comes back. The noise seems to be coming from the front right side of th= e car, and happens when I am turning right. Any help would be appreciated. = Thanks.

if it happens at slow speeds, 'pace' the car while someone drives it and try to pin down if the sound is central or at the front right corner.

try putting the front end up on jacks and spinning the tires by hand. Also, rock the tires in the 12 o'clock-6 o'clock direction and check for bad wheel bearing.

typical aftermarket rebuilt axles are notoriously bad. You 'could' try swapping the axles left-to-right and see if the sound follows the axle to the left.

EMPI axles (from rockauto or thru amazon) are only $10-$15 more than most rebuilts, but are new and properly case hardened. Most rebuilts have been ground for larger bearings and are no longer properly heat treated.

I had something like this on Impreza (also right front side) and it turned out to be loose heat shield. Welding it back completely eliminated the noises.
