$AU585 for a single LHS foglight?

Subaru Liberty RX, 1999 - the wombat came off worse. What's with Subaru thinking they can get away with charging $585 for a single light, fer cryin' out loud?

Any similar lamp unit from a different make?

Sorry I can't be of help locating a different make or model with a similar lamp unit, but I feel your pain as it sounds like we're in the same boat for prices.

Every time I talk to the parts guy at my dealer he tells me straight up that I don't want to know the cost.

To quote him, "Subaru is very proud of their parts!", which of course he says jokingly.

$400+ for a wiper part, $700+ for a piece of exaust piping (no, not a cat convertor piece either), $800+ for a solenoid, $120+ for a molded plastic piece, $8 for a bolt, of which I needed four (thankfully I didn't have to pay that for some silly bolts)...

However, it was oddly only $70 for the water pump I replaced, so whatever their pricing scheme is, it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.

How much of those prices are import duty and VAT?

When the button on my parking brake broke loose, I found that the only way I could replace it was to buy the whole damn parking brake for $149US. So, after a little machine turning of some brass stock, some soldering and a little swearing, I rebuilt the button for no cost except for my time. At least I had satisfaction.

I don't know how anyone can survive without a metal lathe, a vertical mill and at least

2 torches in their garage (:

Well, it helps to fix computers for those who do that sort of thing and have teenagers in the house blowing up their computers. (-; Kinda like the ol' barter system.

Those bloody uninsured wombats get you every time don't they ... :)

My 99 got a big stone chip in the driver's side one. It works though, so I still haven't got around to finding out if Hella have anything that will go in with minimal work, but seems like a good option. Cheaper/easier plan might be see if there are any worthwhile local wreckers where you are. Cheers

Yup, there are good Suby wreckers around, just no driving lights. Hen's teeth, they all say. Let me know how you go finding Hellas.
