Bad Gas/Mileage 04 Outback Sport

Hi,

Factory demo with 6k km when I got it, I measure from my last two fillup and it is doing 13L/100KM. It is quite far away from the owner's manual. Are they usually that bad when they are new or there might be something eles ?? Please help !!

More data would help poeple give a better answer. For starters - What country? Short/long/ city/country driving? Auto/manual? Granny driver or leadfoot? How many people? Trailer etc? For what it's worth, my 99 Outback Ltd 2.5 auto gives 11-12.5L/100km and that's about 1L/100km high across the board unless you normally drive with a full car &/or your right foot hard down everywhere. IME, OB sport & Impreza are typically around 10% better again. Cheers

It's in Ontario, Canada with auto. My wife drive it everyday to pick up kids at school, it about 5km round trip and I drive it to ball games around 12 km round trip on Mon, Tue, Thue and Friday. Other than that it's just weekend driving to pick up groceries. No more than 30 km.

Short trips on a cold engine will hammer mileage but that's still a lot. Is it going to be dealer serviced? Could see if there are any strange codes showing, else possibly worth trying the Subaru upper cylinder service. Has made 10% difference across two sercive intervals on some of mine at times in the past. Otherwise, sounds like move further away from the school or make the kids walk. Tough in winter though! Cheers
