Can STI could be stolen? (US)

What year was this STi? The '05-'06 have the immobilizer which makes theft more difficult but the '04 does not.

I doubt ,depending on the circumstances, anyone would be suspicious of a vehicle disguised as a flat bed tow truck, dragging off an STi with its alarms blaring.

The alarm system is damn near useless! Steps to taking the car are......... Grab car with towrig equipped with "Y" hooks from the rear.Lift rear end and drag car around the back of building so owner won't see you. Now the easy part

1. pop door (easy..VERY easy)
2. open hood
3. Cut neg battery cable with cable cutter (silence alarm quickly) and close hood.
4. Put car in neutral, release brakes and leave drivers door unlocked.
5. Move car farther away in parking lot for next step.
6. Apply towlights on the hood of the car.
7. Install security straps over the tires in the cradle( tow hooks).
8. Take car to new location and park it for a day to see if the car has Lojack/Teletrack installed in it.
9. If car is still there, pick it back up and have your way with it, transport it INSIDE a long trailer.

If you think your "Immobilizer" is protecting your car, you are in for a bad lesson.It's a joke of a system at best. Getting the doors open is childsplay. breaking the window is EASY and QUIET with a spring loaded centerpunch. You simply "Pop" the window in the corner with the punch and the window falls out in small squares with a silent "Woosh". If the thief is not good with a "Slimjim" he uses the punch.They usually "Punch" a rear window to avoid the glass while they steal/strip your car. A good operator can snag your car in SECONDS. The rest takes a few minutes, but he has time once he takes your car around the corner.

Now you say you want to KEEP your car?? Do this..... A. Crank wheels all they way to the lock when parking. (makes tow operator use dollys and wastes valuable time) B. Lock the hood. (no cutting wires to disable alarm/noisemakers) C. Install a GOOD alarm system and install it in the TRUNK with a backup battery system.Opening a hood is normal, prying a trunk open with a prybar is not. D. Get Lojack or Teletrack. Lojack has no service fee, Teletrack does but you get what you pay for. E. Park where there is a lot of foot traffic, and activity. Thieves don't like an audiance. F. Use an audible sounder thats DIFFERANT/LOUD then the usual $39 system. G. Install a LOUD, I MEAN LOUD noisemaker INSIDE the car. A thief can't think straight when it's hurting his ears and can't cover his ears and work on your car at the same time.

This is some really good advice...now I am just trying to figure out if you are a cop or a car thief :-)

jAll cars can be stolen if somebody wants them enough. Alarms and immobilisers are there to deter joyriders. They will not stop professional thieves who are stealing cars to order. Neither will tracker devices.

One of the nasty side effects of better car security is that thieves may resort to car-jacking or breaking into our homes for the keys.....putting us at risk as well as our cars.
