would some kind soul measure the rear stowage area of a forester xt with the rear seats up, and advise me what is the biggest dog crate i can get in there

Consumer Reports has a test where they determine the largest box that will fit through the tailgate and fully into the cargo space. Many veicles have much relatively unuseable volume with all the curves, etc .
They report 59x36x29 being the maximum for the Forester. They also report 38 inches of floor length with the seats in upright position, but it is unclear whether this measurement takes any lean into account since they also report 68 inches with the seat in a down position.
