engine cooling problem

My 1995 Subaru Legacy L has two engine cooling fans. Should both of the fans continually cycle on and off together very frequently?

Thanks, John jls667 at yahoo.com

John,

Is this deja vu all over again? Seems you asked the exact same question a few weeks ago and there was a pretty good thread on it. Did we miss something?

Probably find one is on and off with the a/c, other normal cooling. See if only one works with the air left off. If temp gauge is normal and you're not losing coolant, sound like they're doing their job just fine! Cheers

Ditto that. One should be on all the time, the other should cycle with the A/C. Otherwise, something may be amiss. I lost both fuses in a crash, and the repair place and the insurance company missed it. As it was the dead of winter, I didn't notice the lack of fans until early summer when I overheated. Fortunately I came prepared with spare fuses. A good investment for any motorist.

I don't know what controls the fans, but if there's a relay involved it might account for the cycling.
