First ever problem (UK)

In 11 years of Subaru ownership...Impreza Turbo, Forester Turbo Sport and currently 002 WRX... I've had my first real problem...which is also puzzling the hell out of me. Both rear rotors have cracked...fine lines from the hubs out both sides.

26K on the clock, front rotors and pads replaced at 22.5K and no more than normal abuse for a WRX and probably less as I'm doing mainly commuter trips in 30 & 40 limits. The only smokin' stop was when I bedded in the new front brakes and really only quite sedate motoring since then. I've never had such a problem on any car before. Not covered under warranty (10K miles max claims allowed) and I'm not bitching about that but why the hell have they failed? They show very little wear as would be expected. Informed opinions welcomed (but that does not include that Dr Rastus whatever idiot) TIA

Sounds like very hot to very cold in a matter of microseconds. Why did you give it death on the brakes whils't new?

If you've been blazing around a few back streets then hit some snow/large puddle of water/something cold, this may well have caused it - have you noticed it while driving, looked at it yourself, or were told by a mech?

only way I've come across this was myself in my old BMW 733i, blasting around, launching on the brakes and then gunning it out of a corner with a bit of oversteer - then had to stop for a red light, square in a puddle. Massive cloud of steam later from the fronts, and I had splintered the one on the left (in deeper water) and cracked the one on the right - which was only in a shallowish puddle.

Admittedly i got 2nd hand OEM's to replace, but can't argue with ventilated

4-pots. Excellent stopping power.

Standard procedure to bed-in new pads and rotors is to make a controlled series of hard stops. Google it, there's plenty on the subject. That was for the front brakes, the rears are original with virtually no wear and the bedding-in did not affect them...or maybe it did and took 5k to appear? If the brakes were over-stressed then the front rotors would have cracked or warped. They are 100%
