Happy New Year a.a.s.

Hi All!

I haven't been here in awhile; thought I'd check in and say "Howdy".

Doesn't seem like there has been much action in this group lately, how is everybody doin'? And your Soobies?

Happy 2012 from Steve and George_the_Mule!

ByeBye! S.

I still check in here almost daily, but as you can likely see in your reader, it is still slow here. I guess there is just more utility and participation on Forums and folks seek info there more often. i recently changed struts, a half axle, serpentine pulley bearings and fixed a PS pump problem on the wife's Outback. Got a lot of help both here AND from the Forums.

Happy new year to you as well!

I still don't get why nobody has written a usable "forum" interface that could rival Usenet. Many lack threading, search is usually pathetic and posts are almost never cross-referenced, clunky paged views and the lack of ability to mark articles as "read" make forums incredibly inconvenient.

I don't get to contribute much, but I enjoy reading everyone's comments. I'm sure there are other lurkers here too that enjoy this newsgroup. I've gotten good advice and learned a lot. I hope it continues. I agree with what DK said about usenet being much better format than "forums". It is much clearer to read, and navigate around.

Good to see you're still breathing in, and out, in that order.

By now you will have discovered the myth about retiring and haven't started on that list of all those things you were going to do when you did retired.

And you're running around twice as fast.

Forums are a mixed bag. Other than the search functions though (they do seem crude), I have no problem with the structure, and , except for a recent change at one Forum, there are easy ways to single-click and open subscribed threads in new tabs to the precise post you left off. (basically, bookmarking where you stopped reading) as well as 'go to new post' buttons.

I think most of the folks here would like the group at ultimatesubaru.org . You may have to fiddle with some user settings and ask a coupla questions, but it's a more approachable group, mostly, than NASIOC. Scoobymods is nice too. The ability to include photos, plus the shear number of participants, makes them quite useful.

Not a forum, but perhaps of interest to some people on this forum, is a Question & Answer site dedicated to automobile repair. It can be searched in many ways, especially by tags, e.g. [subaru] The site is reputation based, meaning you get more privileges (and fewer ads) the more you participate. Not affiliated with the site at all, other than being familiar with a related Q&A site that has been useful.

Could it be because you are reading Usenet from Google web interface? It, too, is not much better than "forums". In comparison to the conveneince of the real newsreaders, Google Groups is stone age (at best).

I come there once in a while for many years. Very useful, yes. But the poor user interface is a deal killer to me. Don't have a discipline and patience to keep up with it.
