Hatch light problem/question?

my 98 foresters hatch light works in the "on" position, works in the off position (like they all do) however in the "door" position where it is supposed to turn on when the hatch lifts it doesnt come on..i was wondering if any of you had this experience and have a reccomendation..I plan on taking the thing off and inspecting it soon.

Hi,

Looks like Fuse F2 (15 amp) comes from the "Hot all time" Bus in the main fuse panel. This also feeds the clock. Is that working? It also feeds the two spot lights over the center of the dash. Are they working? It appears that once you open the Rear Gate Latch, the switch will cause the light to come on. It also shows that the door open indicator on the dash should come on. Does that happen? There is a diode assembly that is in the right rear corner of the cargo compartment that isolates the door open/lamp lights functions. If the hatch open indicator works AND the cargo area lamp lights, then that is good.

It appears that the cargo lamp is wired different than the passenger room light. Looks like the room light has the off-on-switch control where the back only has on-off functions. I hope that all is clear. I can scan and email you the 98 forester Interior Light Schematic, if you want. Contact me off list...

Bill

Good Luck!
