How long do you want to go on your modern synthetic oil?

Depends also on how much trust you have in your oil filter.

I wouldn't trust my OEM Honeywell Subaru blue filter, supposedly made by Fram, to go much more than 5k miles.

Opinions vary. Here is a picture of someone's filter on an STI making it to 6800 miles and still looking fairly decent.

A turbo engine, with its hot oil, wears down the filter a bit faster. I've seen pictures of cheap filters unglue at the cardboard endcaps and bypass small amounts of dirty oil.

As of 2013 Subaru requires 3,750 mile oil changes on all turbo cars. Dirt can accumulate on the mesh filter- located in the banjo bolt, causing oil flow restriction to the turbo.
