How to remove crossrail?

I was just trying to remove one of the crossrails on my '93 Legacy wagon. I got the crossrail loosened okay, but now I can't figure out how to slide it out of the lengthwise rail. I'm getting the distinct impression that the answer involves removing the headliner inside the car. :-(

Here's a photo of the situation:

Anyone got any ideas?

Site is Russian but manuals are in English.

It's funny how sometimes they have "Subaru" in English and sometimes in Cyrillic.

Anyway, the oldest one available is 2001. I checked the list of items it covered and there was no sign of anything about the roof rack. Thanks for the suggestion.

Found this via Google search:

According to DLC, you remove some caps to access the bolts, remove the front end of the side rails, and slide out the cross rails.

Thank you! I had Googled around earlier today but didn't see that forum.

I just popped off one of the caps and I see now what else needs to be removed to release the end piece of the lengthwise bar. It's getting dark, so I'll do the rest tomorrow.

I had downloaded all the manuals for my '03 Forester a while back and roof rack removal is discussed in the pdf on interior-exterior trim. These things change with time but the oldest equivalent you can find might give you some ideas.

I uploaded to my web space:

Thanks, Frank! Turns out that the previous pointer was correct and on my Legacy, there was no need to remove the headliner (what your manual calls the "roof trim") to release the rail endcap. It took me 20-25 minutes to do everything (such as fighting with the stiff rubber caps to get them back on), but all is finished.

Also I picked up my new Outback yesterday. :-) There will be questions, I'm sure...

Did not see until after posting that you were on your way to solving problem.

Gave me the opportunity to refresh my uploading skills.

Like I mentioned, I downloaded all the manuals for my Forester but even with diagrams some stuff is not all that clear.
