State Farm sent me a letter, a couple of times, that I could greatly lower my car insurance cost by allowing them to put a device in the car that tracks my driving.

Not gonna happen.

Over 25 years ago in Europe, tour guide told us that trucks were required to carry a recorder that recorded time on road and speed. A cop could pull them over, check their recorder, and fine them for speeding.

Today, I'd guess they do this by gps.

My agent told me just last Friday they (SF) are working on a system that will allow you to take a picture of your odometer at some given interval and send it in that way. No more "device" required to get the mileage and, presumably, get you/me that discount.

I got a couple of those letters too. I had the impression the device also tracked speed plus a couple other things. I wasn't interested. State Farm did ask for odometer readings on my new Frontier. I just had to send the note back in a preaddressed envelope. I'd sure go for the discount, device or not, on company owned vehicles. It would be good to know what employees are doing anyhow.

I'm also State Farm but sure don't want them recording every time I fart.

I am saving money taking defensive driving course. Just completed refresher.

Yeah. Who would want a car that rats you out when you commit a crime?
