Lost my 2001 Outback Wagon..... One more reason why these are great - What now???

Hi

Last Saturday while I was waiting for a red light a Truck hit a Cadi then went head-on into my driver's side at approx 45 mph. I was spun 90 degrees onto a cement median and the truck kept on going finally slamming into a cement pylon.

I was the only one not taken by ambulance - in fact - not a scratch on me. For not having side airgs - the car help up incredibly well.

I was told yesterday that my car is considered totaled! Only 24000 miles on it.... Yikes!

So now what? I believe a 2004 Outback Wagon again.

Anyone buy one yet? Any expected major differences between the 2001 & 2004?

Similarly, I lost my '98 Forester to a bad driver. I got a slight bruise from the seat belt but I am on blood thinner. The driver of the PT cruiser that turned into my lane, was admitted to the hospital with neck and chest pains. I went and bought an '03. I was pleased with little things Subaru had done like made access to oil pan and filter easier for oil change and indexed the automatic shifter with lights on console to indicate gear. I even like the running lights since they are not overly bright and you don't have to think about for situations where you need them like rain. Gas mileage is also improved. Frank

In the old days a relative would come and drive the car home and YOU would've been 'totaled'.

glad you're OK. Hope the others recover. Thanx for the report.

Sorry to hear about your car. Glad you're okay. We just bought an '04 OBW LL Bean. this is our first Subie (came from Toyota), so I can't compare- but I do know that the '04 is the 5th year for this version, so it is very mature, and all of the bugs should be worked out by now. It has side body (not head) air bags. Anyway, so far (500 miles) we love it. Getting 20 MPG City - just as advertised. We also had looked at an '04 Forrester XT. Man, was that fun!

0-60 in 5.3. It felt like a jet plane taking off, but was not very comfortable, and the interior was kind of cheapish.

BTW, did your front air bags deploy?

Sorry to hear about the accident and I'm glad you're ok!

2004 would be a great time to buy another. Major design changes comes with 2005, which means you'll be getting a 5th year production of the 2000 platform redesign design which should theoretically be the most mature of the lot. A 2004 will feel very similar to your 2001.

If I may stray off-topic for a moment... Getting a medical evaluation sometime in the next week would probably be a good thing. I have known a person who declined after a bad accident because there were no apparent symptoms only to suffer for years from a latent injury.

No airbags went off.

Thanks for the concern.

I went to my doctor last week for an evaluation.

Ouch! Glad to hear you're ok.

Don't know where you're located, but yesterday we traded in our '01 LLBean with less than 22K miles. Pampered car, never abused, no accidents, etc.
