Outback interior colors

Subaru's website describes the color options on cloth interiors for the Outback as "Black" and "Ivory." Yet every Subaru dealer website I've looked at (they all seem to use the same platform) calls the colors "Dark Gray" and "Taupe." I've seen some photos online in which the lighter color really does look ivory, but on the Subaru website, the color chip looks like a light brown.

Does anyone here know why the official dealer sites don't agree with the official manufacturer's site? And more importantly, what color is this damned cloth, anyway? :-)

We got the light interior on or 2011 Outback and it showed the dirt so quickly that we had the entire interior converted to dark grey leather at a cost of $2500. We definitely don't recommend getting the light-colored interior. Even the Subaru salesman noted they have had some issues with the too light interior.

Good luck,

That's very useful information, Russ.

The cloth seats in my Legacy are dark blue, so dirt hasn't been a problem. The seats in my Porsche are ivory, but they aren't cloth, so again, not a problem. Given my general lack of interest in housework (or in this case, autowork), maybe ivory/taupe/whatever cloth isn't the best choice for me. Perhaps it's time to go back to the Subie dealership and stare at interiors...

Yep, never ever get light coloured interiors. If you're stuck with one (e.g. a work car), then get seat covers ASAP.

Yeah. My Outback has the light color interior and it is a real horror story. There isn't a thing that it doesn't show. I'm going to call the mobile detailer who did my Miata to see if they can do something to clean it but I really doubt that they have the miracle cure. Oh well, I'll know next time.

I just really find a black interior unattractive. Have you folks who've had problems with light interiors tried Scotchguard? If so, has that helped?

And btw, I'm still wondering whether this color is ivory or taupe. Maybe I'll have to trek back to a Subaru dealership to see it in person...

The important question is which do you like. Bachelors like myself adapt to the dingy look. Cleaning anything is almost always interrupted by important bachelor stuff. (lazy chair and TV)

Me thinks you are better off with a spotty light interior than a dark interior unless you plan on routinely carrying dead bodies around (deer or otherwise) or if your inhabit the upper states.

where I live I'd rather spend some dough on detailers than have a depressing black interior again. But, then, there is a dead body usecase where the utility of the drycleaning is questionable.

That would be a terrific idea. simon says every pixel on an TN monitor is a bad pixel. Hence color fidelity may very. In TN cases very very.

Even is you have an IPS panel to look at the colors there is no telling how careful the web staff was at stuffing the proper pictures on the website.

Maybe they should go all "trendy" and cover the seats in recycled material from older cars which is already dirty and stained. ;-)

Personally I'd rather spend money on necessary things like food than impossibly and constantly trying to get a car's light-coloured interior cleaned back to "as new".

In the age of side airbags I would not recommend covering seats with anything (I'm not curious enough to discover how I'll be knocked around the cage in a case of a front and side airbags deploying simultaneously with the latter finding a seat cover in the way)

I just ordered seat covers for my 2005 legacy. After almost 9 years, the leather is getting worn and I've got at least one rip. The covers have a flap on the outer side of the seat back cover to accommodate the air bag.
