Painting Brake Caliper

Has anyone seen the Colored Brake Calipers on some cars?

I found a website that shows you how to do it.

it seems simple. I am thinking Red Calipers on my Silver 03 Forester XS Premimum. I will probably do it. What does anyone think?

I've been wanting to paint mine, but they have 130,000 miles of rust and crud on them. I don't know if I'd be able to get all the stuff off.

Brush off the crap with a wire brush and paitn with Hammerite enamel paint. Looks good, lasts well and cost a lot less than the "special caliper" paints. I've done it on 2 cars and my son's done his - no problem

That's a Porsche thing, Mike. Thus, it's gotta be the way to go. ;-)

I think it looks great myself.

Yeah. I do like it on Porsches. Anyway, i know it is only vanity (i.e. no performance gains) but it looks VERY cool, easy to do, and it doesn't cost too much. I suppose it is the same idea as putting one of those stupid spoilers on the Forester. ;) no REAL value. (btw my forester DID come with the spoiler) Well if the weather Clears up i am going to try to do it tomorrow. It rained all day today.

I will post a Before and after Pic of my Forester here when i am done so everyone can see.... although you would only get the full effect while the car is in motion.

Yeah, post it. I'd like to see what it looks like. My Baja is black/silver and wonder if chinese red would go good with that combo.

And, nothing wrong with vanity. That's why we spend time washing/waxing.

Also why we work out at the gym when we know we are a pussy. I guess I'm a pussy because I live 'em so much. `*8-o

Be careful, Mike. Calipers can get very hot under some circumstances. Be sure you use a good high temp paint or you couldout with a "burnt umber" color.

I bought a '65 Mustang, factory GT, once upon a time. Worst car I ever owned. Brakes faded badly, front suspension was like bed springs. Almost killed myself in the Santa Monica mountains dicing with a stupid Alpha Romeo. Traded that car for a used '65 356 SC a year later and the same Alpha couldn't keep up!!!

I saw the other day that Porsche has gone to Ceramic disk pads on their new cars. A far cry from the good ole days of the 356, eh? Wish I had need for such an item now. ;-)
