Standard repair charges list?

Hi all,

I have a 98 Forester, and it's getting a fuel pump replaced. I was wondering if there's a list anywhere of the standard charge for this repair? For example, 3 hours? 4?

Thanks folks. I like subarus, but i've replaced the head gasket twice, and now the fuel pump, all in the last 2 years that i've owned this

115k mile puppy. ugh.

best, allie

I go there to get info on my car. I believe they list repair instructions (often very minimal) along with average times for the repairs. What you actually get charged depends on their hourly rate, if they go by hour increments or partial time, and all the "supplies" they charge you for. I always check what the dealer charges and what my favorite charges, and maybe one other place where I know the prices are right but haven't gone there enough to trust them.

I'd go by how much they charge rather than the hours. The dealer wanted over $400 to replace the muffler and a section of pipe connected to it. Other places (Midas, Precision Tune, etc.) were quoting over $200 and $300 (and they were not using Subaru OEM parts). I found Auto Max

that only charged $135 which was the price for just the muffler from the Subaru dealer. I've been underneath and it looks like good work to me, and they used the same $70 Walker muffler that all the non-Subie shops said they would've used (they made the pipe themself so I don't know what the stock part would've cost). Although Auto Max had a great price for the muffler and pipe, they're they same as the other on quotes to replace all 4 struts, so I haven't found a good place for cheap yet to do that and will probably try the rears myself and then figure out if I want to bother with the fronts.
