"winking headlights"

Due to job changes, find myself working an evening or two a week. :(

The 86 GL hasn't had headlights turned on for oh maybe 5-6 years, and they still come on just fine, but when I hit the turn signal handle or flash brights, they will "wink" don't think they ever go completely out, but dim down then come right back. Loose ground, handle trouble? What say ye group?

My last fishing expedition here saved me junking it by re ringing the oil pump. THANKS JOE K.!

Hope the ideas will be as fruitful again.

The "combination switch" that operates the signals and lights is probably shot. The contacts inside must have oxidized from the many years of disuse, it's possible that if you exercise the switch enough it may come back but if it doesn't you'll need to replace it.

I'd try re-seating the connectors to the headlights, re-seat the h'light relay. Clean and reconnect every ground I could find, Clean and reconnect both ends of each battery cable. You likely have some resistance built up somewhere causing a voltage drop - or a weak battery/charging system or slipping alt. belt - maybe. Try using a voltmeter across the battery with the varios light s on. If the voltage is steady, the problem is likely dirty/corroded connectors and grounds in the headlight circuit I guess.
