2000 Dodge Ram tranny problem

I have a 2000 Ram 1500 2WD Quad. Out of nowhere the tranny started shifting out of 1st gear at high rpm's. Between 3000 and 3500 rpm. Approx. 30mph. It does this with light or heavy acceleration. During acceleration if you let off the gas it will shift, but if you try to accelerate with anything more than a light touch on the gas it tries to, and often does, shift back into 1st. All shifts are smooth and all other gears shift normal. Does anyone have any idea if there is a fix for this and if so, what that would be?

Which transmission? 4xRH/A518 (5.2, 5.9, V10, and Cummins) or the one they put behind the 4.7 (I for get the number). If its a 4xRH, they're basically a hydraulic transmission with computer control added on and I'd guess that it may be a sensor or servo (throttle position sensor, etc.) but there's a remote possibility that it could be a hydraulic problem- sure doesn't sound like it though. The other one is fully electronic and its almost certainly a sensor like the input or output shaft speed sensor.

There should be a code set in the computer that might give a hint.

It's a 5.2. The number I don't know, but I think they only put 1 kind of

4 speed auto tranny in the 2000. The TPS and the VSS have been replaced and the tranny has been scanned. The scan showed no codes. Its been 25000 since the filter was changed. The fluid looks clean. I've heard a little about the shift solenoid but I'm not too familiar with them. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Probably a 45RH, given that its a 318 in a 1500 truck. The 46RH is the same transmission with more clutch plates and return springs for heavier duty operation, but the transmission used behind the 4.7 is a completely different animal.I guess in 2000 the 4.7 was still just being used in the Grand Cherokee, Dakota, and maybe Durango.

I really don't have any further ideas other than to say its almost certainly NOT a hard transmission failure. The servos and sensors that were used to allow computer control of the 4xRH are its weakest point, and fortunately the cheapest to fix. Just a question of finding the right one to replace.
