My wife's 96 cougar 3.8L has the "Check Engine" light, and the parts store read out the codes of:
1443, 0171, and 0174
which they indicated was the Evaporative canister control valve. Does fixing this problem just require replacing the valve (small white plastic valve behind the right headlight)?
P0171 - Adaptive Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 1 Sensor 1) PCM detected the fuel adaptive system had reached the rich correction limit. Check for fault in these systems: Air Induction, Base Engine, EGR, Fuel and Ignition.
P0174 - Adaptive Fuel System Too Lean (Bank 2 Sensor 1) Same checks as above.
P1443 - EVAP Vacuum System, Purge or VMV Fault The PCM detected an incorrect EVAP Purge Control Valve flow reading. Possible causes include connector faults in the Purge Flow (PF) sensor, a damaged PF sensor, a damaged Vapor Management Valve (VMV), or a damaged Purge Control Solenoid.
