My friend put almost a whole can of freon into his 90's Honda Civic. Afterwards, he said that it kept going in and out, cool and off. So he's not using it anymore in this stifling valley heat. Does anyone know what might have gone wrong? TIA
Without knowing why he put it in in the first place, like the other poster said.. Doesn't know what he's doing. Could have been a 90's Civic that took R134 or R12.. Did he mix refridgerants? We don't know..
Ok, here's more info. My friend put in a can of freon that had all of the required stuff like oil, a\c lubricant and sealer (R134-A). He told me that he did it before and he had no problem doing it . The reason that he put some in was because the a\c was losing its coldness. Could it be the compressor or the condenser? When he turns the a\c on he notices that the compressor or the condenser is turning on more often than when he now uses; it's also not cold.
If a part has to come out, compressor or the RC dryer, ect., yeah.
Parts and labor aint cheap.
Your friend should have put plain 134a in without all the sealer and oil.
You probably have a whole quart of ester oil in there now (eeekkk!!)
That system probably only uses 6 oz. of oil to begin with.
Take it to an A/C shop and tell them what you told us.
BTW, put some good earmuffs on B4 you go in, because you _DONT_ want to hear all the hoots and hollers as they will be laughing about what you guys did :)
BTW, if you let the system go over the winter, thinking you are saving money, you will only add to your cost, so get it fixed now.
