anyone here replaced a starter on a 1987 tercel????

anyone here replaced a starter on a 1987 tercel???? any site that has the step by step instructions ?

my 1987 automatic tercel clicks sometimes when trying to start engine... I have read numerous post this could be caused by worn copper contacts on the solenoid.

any info is highly appreciated

Possibly, but the usual suspect is the battery or cables. Make sure that the terminals at the battery, at the ground, and at the starter/solenoid are clean, tight, and corrosion free. You need to pull the connectors off the bolts to do that.

On an 87, it could likely be just dirty battery cable ends too. I would clean them on both ends first and see what happens.

Yup.

It's pretty simple. But it takes two people to get the new starter bolted in.

The first guy goes under the car and holds the starter up, and wiggles it around while the second guy reaches in under the hood and gets the two bolts to line up.

Check out the Toyota and Haynes manuals I mentioned earlier. They have all the photos and instrs you need.
