chevy 2.0 can't rev engine

I can start my 1983 chevy cavalier 2.0 good. It idles a bit high but but I can rev up the engine very well. Within 60 seconds the idle drops to normal but I cannot rev the engine at all. If I push in the gas pedal it starts to die. Lifting my foot will keep it running. If I want to rev the engine I have to vigorously pump the gas pedal. FWIW the plugs are new and have searched for vacuum leaks pretty well. Any tips?

Clogged fuel filter. EGR or PCV valve stuck open to vacuum. Loose vacuum hose under dash. Broken brake booster vacuum check valve. Sticking float valve if carbureted. Loose throttle body bolts/gasket. Too much distributor advance/retard. Worn distributor shaft. Insufficient dwell if distributor has points. Something else.

Good luck.

Sounds like it is not getting enough gas to run above idle. A reduction in gas flow seems like the most likely thing that would develop after running less than a min. - so start with the fuel filter. Is this car have a carburetor or throttle body?
