Chevy Astro Van 1995 RPM goes High when in drive

I need help !! I have a Chevy Astro Van 1995 RPM goes High when in shifted into drive. Sometimes it surges when in Park. Anybody familiar with this type of trouble ?? Any comments appreciated.
