My question is about the brass fittings that come with it. I assune that on any car made (for several decades at this point) that the only useful adapters would be the metric ones?

Your engine could use either or both. English units are used a lot for piping. Metric is used for bolts. If you are in the USA, go to the hardware store and try to find metric piping.
