Who owns who in the tire industry? This has always been a maze I've had a hard time keeping up with...

No you are right w/o a doubt - Bridgestone bought Firestone - It's called Bridgestone-Firestone now AFAIK but I accidentally had it backwards previously when I referred to it as Firestone-Bridgestone. Anymore I just lump the two brands together... :)

I forgot to list Vredestein - not a brand I typically see in the US.

Sumitomo sold it to GY a year or two ago. Sumitomo itself is part of an outfit called 'Treadways' which AFAIK isn't a brand of tires but some sort of conglomerate perhaps?

Told you it was a constantly shifting maze! :)

One clue you'll notice in 'some' cases is that when you visit brand X's website - it is identical to Brand Y's website except for some colors and a logo. No guarantees but a pretty good indicator that can often be verified thru other means.
