Glue-on rear mirro

The rear view mirror fell off our 1992 Explorer. I got some rear view mirror adhesive glue and reattached it to the windshield glass and the next day it fell off again. I may not have removed all the old adhesive and am going to try to glue it on again...this time removing all the old adhesive and making sure the glass is absolutely clean. Is there a better way....are all the adhesives the same? Any tips would be appreciated.

follow the directions on the packaging carefully and only use one drop of glue if that is what the directions say, more glue makes it weaker Dean

You may not want to bother going the DIY route. The Locktite professional products that a glass shop will have are the best. The glass shop I usually use glues mirrors back on at no charge, kind of a promo thing since it takes them 5 minutes and $0.50 in materials. Other shops might do the same.

I do mine with the sun shining into the windshield. I dunno, seems to cure quicker.

Absolutely, I've done mine and the keys are:

1) Totally clean glass and mirror mount 2) use the smallest drop of glue possible 3) the second you put the glue on it must go exactly flat against the window, and the glue must almost completely cover the mount area, and it must not move.

You have to press the mount against the window with quite a lot of pressure and hold it there for about a minute until the glue sets. The glue sets almost instantly. If you slip it during the time the glue is going through it's plastic stage the joint is ruined, or don't press firmly enough then not enough glue is squished out from between the mount and the glass and the joint is ruined.

Once the glue is opened use it asap, then toss the unused portion.

I've done lots of them, Ted, with simple glue kits and echo exactly what you have said. Following that procedure, I have never had one fail.
