How can you tell?

How can you tell if you broke a piston or not?? Other than taking the engine apart....

Exactly what kind of broke? One check for noise the other check for compression. You may use an endoscope to take a look through the spark plug hole into a cylinder. This method they use to check valves inner sides and pistons.

And if you have a hole in the oil pan or the side of the block, shine a flashlight right through that hole.

usually the engine stops running. often accompanied by a loud bang. try draining the oil. If you have large chunks of stuff in it, you may be the lucky owner of a very heavy doorstop.

So, what did you do to mom's car?
